Half of the fun of travel is the aestetics of lostness.
Ray Bradbury
This week we are talking about a Latin word and the concept it brings. Travel is our topic again. It must be a condition peculiar to souls who are always on the move, who cannot stay still, and whose minds are always a little bit on the go. And their crowd is getting bigger.
In recent years, the number of people traveling has been increasing, especially those traveling alone. Solo traveling is now a worldwide concept, and we have come across the word, solivagant as the Latin word for a solo traveler.
Traveling alone is actually not my favorite way to travel; I find it more enjoyable to travel with people with whom I can chat, laugh, and have fun. On the other hand, there were a few times when I traveled alone, and I will never forget them. Being able to plan a trip according to your own wishes, without having to adapt to anyone or answer to anyone, allows you to design the trip exactly according to yourself. In addition, you can hear your own voice more clearly than you have ever heard before, and you can even become your own friend.
For example, I delightfully remember my solo trip to Vienna. Sitting in the city's most beautiful cafes and watching the people passing by, feasting on desserts ranging from Sacher Torte to Apple Strudel, and the pleasure of going to the opera alone and watching the impressive performance of La Boheme.
If you have never traveled alone, you are missing an important opportunity. It should be tried at least once.
Solo travel is full of self-discovery and self-pride. Traveling with people is more chatty and full of sharing. But traveling alone doesn’t have to be a lonely experience. Instead, it’s an opportunity to find ‘new friends’. Really new. You can meet people from different nationalities, races, and colors. Who knows? Your solo trip may turn out to be a crowded one. One of life’s nice surprises.
Notes & Reads:
Solo Traveler is a portal for solo travelers. It’s an online meeting place that gives information about the practical side of solo travel along with tips for newbies or special recommendations for different parts of the world. It’s a good starting point for anyone who intends to at least try traveling alone.
Eat, Pray, Love is an over-mentioned-by-me book about the solo traveling experience of a good storyteller, Elizabeth Gilbert.
Next week, I’ll be on vacation with eight people. I won’t be alone for even a moment, apparently. Let’s see what will come as a new word from that experience.
Have a great week and weekend.
Till next Friday,

A small contribution to the topic by Henry Miller; “One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”
What a jubilant word this week! Solo traveling is adventurous and liberating; while a shared memory with a travel companion is equally priceless. I share your sentiments on the topic.
Have a jolly good vacation! Cheers :)
